Welcome!

We're happy you decided to check out our Troop. There is a lot of information on our website. We suggest that you start with the New Scouts section, which will give you lots of information about Boy Scouts and how our Troop is organized. You can check out the Calendar to see all the cool trips we are planning.  Although we are a Boy-Led Troop, we need adults to deliver the best program we can. There are many opportunities to volunteer - driving, chaperoning, acting as a merit badge counselor, helping out the committee to do the background work so that all the events happen. Check out our Parents section for more information.  We always have a great time during summer camp at Camp Mattatuck.  Scouts who have gone to SeaBase or Northern Tier or a National Jamboree will tell you how amazing those experiences are.  We always look forward to our next great scouting adventure, and we hope you can be part of it!

So join us and, WELCOME to Troop 44!

Backpack Food Program

Posted on Jan 25 2022 - 8:34pm

We are challenging each scout and each adult leader to bring in one (1) item from the food list below each week that we have a meeting  through the end of our scouting year in June.

Very Specific Food Items needed are:

Home - Weekend Backpacks
  •  Mac and Cheese
  • Instant Oatmeal packets
  • Small jars of peanut butter (plastic)
  • Cans of Tuna
  • Boxes of rice
  • Canned beans
  • Granola Bars
  • Shelf stable rice or soymilk

It is helpful if food is smaller, not oversized cereal and peanut butter as it has to fit in a back pack.

Also, needs to be in date, and not expired.

FAQ - How do I earn a merit badge?

Question: How can I earn a merit badge?

Answer: There are two ways to earn a merit badge.  You can either participate in an organized event, such as Merit Badge Weekend or a Merit Badge themed Campout, or you can do it on your own.

To earn a merit badge on your own, there are a few steps that you must follow:

Step 1)  Decide what Badge interests you.

Step 2)  Discuss which badge you are interested in with your Scoutmaster.  You must get approval before you start, and either get a blue card, or a digital blue card in Troopmaster.

Step 3)  Find a registered merit badge counselor for the badge you are interested.

Step 4) Contact the merit badge counselor and determine a plan for you to discuss your work on the requirements. (During a troop meeting is not the best time).  The counselor will complete and sign the blue card or enter completed requirements through Troopmaster.
